The mountains are rich in agricultural diversity and in natural resources. However, challenging mountain topography, isolated habitations, fragmented agriculture fields, small agricultural surpluses make it difficult for mountain people to access markets for their produce. To live and practice farming or establish agriculture and natural resource based enterprises becomes difficult. Many young people feel compelled to migrate.
Mountain Organic Products Pvt Ltd (MOPPL) has been established to conserve and promote the mountain values and to support rural communities living in the mountains.
Since its inception in 2005, MOPPL has the objective of promoting and marketing the produce of mountain farmers, individual entrepreneurs and self help groups, especially women. It guides and promotes rural communities to grow and add value to local produce and creates market opportunities for them. The marketing respects the brands created by local producers.
The interest of consumers and making available to them organic and natural produce with high nutrition values is an important concern.
